Foz do Iguassu is a city of about 300 thousand inhabitants. It is characterized by tourism and its cultural diversity. There are about 80 nationalities, being the most representative from Lebanon, China, Paraguay and Argentina.

Foz do Iguassu is integrated into a tri-national region, bordering the Argentine city of Puerto Iguassu and the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este. The city’s economy is based on tourism, with emphasis on trade and services.

According to research conducted by the Brazilian Tourist Institute (Embratur) and the Foundation Institute of Economic Research (FIFE) in 2006, 2007 and 2008, Foz do Iguassu was considered the “Second most visited leisure destination by foreign tourists” after Rio de Janeiro. In 2010, it received from the Ministry of Tourism 10 awards for Best Practices and Competitiveness Index. The Foz do Iguassu Destination have been noted by various national and international media. Guia Quatro Rodas mentions it as one of the best attractions of Brazil. The Guardian Journal/England says it is the best foreign destination for the UK. The World Network (CNN USA) classifies it as one of the 14 most romantic destinations. TourFilm Brazil Art&Tur from Barcelos/Portugal, among other, also make note of it. All of this only in the last two years. 

The Rolling Stone magazine labeled it as “Foz do Iguassu is a fantastic city. For tourists, it comes down to the falls and shopping and for the keen observers, it is our Babel, with an ethnic diversity worthy of the world’s greatest cities”

Besides the well-known tourist attractions, Foz do Iguassu has numerous options for sightseeing, leisure, dinning and a quite busy nightlife.
