Investments provide the best experience from tourists at Iguassu Falls.
The history of the Cataratas do Iguaçu S.A. began in January 18, 1999. The company was founded with the mission to implement and operate attractions, coupled with the natural beauty of the park. It would build a complex that would be able to recover and extend the tourist attraction, providing better quality visits.
To understand the company’s entire history, we must go back to the 90’s decade. At that time, the modernization processes of tourist destinations were growing worldwide. However, barely any exploitation of natural attractions was being done in Brazil. The country did little to improve its appeal. The Iguassu National Park was a victim of this problem.
Brazil then, decided to launch a challenge: the revitalization of its natural beauty through concessions, beginning with the Iguassu National Park. The bidding is won by the Cataratas do Iguaçu S.A. It would take the tourist administration of the unit for a period of 15 years from 1999 to 2014. The law gave the company permission to conduct the economic use of the transportation service for visitors and four areas within the park: the Visitor Center, Porto Canoas, Naipi and Tarobá.
It is important to mention that some areas were constructed and implemented by the company, such as the Visitor Center and the transportation system. Others had to undergo extensive renovations and adaptations, including Porto Canoas, Naipi and Tarobá Areas.
During the past year, the concessionaire has made numerous investments for the improving the park’s quality, totaling more than $42 million. Due to the large investment and delay in the contract, the concession was revised and expanded until 2020.
Model in Brazil
Ten years after the beginning of the operations in the Iguassu National Park, the company is considered a benchmark. Proof of this is that in 2010 the federal government chose it as a model of local management to be followed by other preservation areas in the Park Program. This nomination was the recognition of the work done by the concessionaire.
After consolidating the success of the concession in the Iguassu National Park, the Cataratas do Iguaçu S.A. is taking its expertise to other major tourist destinations in Brazil. The company won the public concession to implement the infrastructure and manage the entrance of the visitors to the National Marine Park of Fernando de Noronha, in the state of Pernambuco. The concessionaire’s team is already working in the development a system to attract more visitors.
